Botox is an FDA-approved injectable treatment. It is one of a class of medications called neuromodulators that can relax muscles and help erase wrinkles, treat sagging skin, shape the face and overall, rejuvenate your looks. The FDA has approved neuromodulators for the treatment of wrinkles, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms.

In cosmetic medicine, the most common neuromodulators are Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. These are quite safe and injected underneath the skin in the area of desired treatment.

What Does Botox Treat?

Crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, brow wrinkles or “elevens” are often treated with Botox. Excessive sweating can also be treated with simple injections. Facial slimming by injecting the masseter muscles is also a common procedure. Sagging neck skin or neck bands can sometimes be treated with neuromodulators.

Dr. Revenaugh and Dr. Smith have extensive experience in the use of these medications for many indications. They can help you choose the best treatment and help you achieve the results you desire.

The Procedure

Before your procedure, Dr. Revenaugh or Dr. Smith will mark the targeted areas of the face that will receive the Botox injections. Sometimes, a topical anesthetic or numbing cream is applied to help ease any discomfort.

Using a very fine microneedle, Dr. Revenaugh or Dr. Smith will inject Botox into the targeted areas. Typically, Botox treatments do not take longer than thirty minutes.

Recovery and Results

There is no recovery period after getting Botox treatments. You can return to your normal daily activities right after your appointment. You may experience redness, swelling, bruising, and/or pain at the injection sites. It is important to remember that these are common minor side effects and will usually dissipate within a few hours to a couple days.

You should also stay out of the sun after getting Botox injections. If you must be in direct sunlight, be sure to apply sunscreen with SPF and wear protective clothing, like a hat.

You may be able to see results in as little as three days; however, the results from your Botox treatments may take up to seven to ten days to see. Typically, results last anywhere from three to four months, and you can come in for repeat treatments every three to four months to maintain your results.

Cost of Botox

The cost of Botox treatments depends on a few variables, like the amount of injections you receive, the amount of product used, the amount of treatments you get, and other various factors. If you have any questions about the price of this treatment, be sure to ask Dr. Revenaugh or Dr. Smith during your personalized consultation.
