Closeup headshot of sophisticated business womanWhile many view a “nose job” as purely cosmetic, rhinoplasty at Rush Facial Plastics is a specialized procedure designed to balance your facial features while improving nasal airflow.

Whether you are looking to repair a sports injury, resolve a lifelong breathing struggle, or refine your profile, our modern approach goes beyond surface-level changes. We focus on creating natural-looking results that maintain structural integrity, helping you move through the world with increased confidence and improved airflow.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a broad term applied to procedures that change the nose. This procedure can be done to change aesthetic features, improve breathing, or both. Features that are often addressed during rhinoplasty include removal of a hump along the bridge of the nose, creating a definition of the nasal tip, and correcting a crooked appearing nose. Many noses have ethnic features that should be carefully addressed. This is commonly termed ethnic sensitive rhinoplasty and can help preserve your identity while refining your nose. Breathing adjustments are often done with a septoplasty or as a component of a septorhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty can be accomplished with a traditional open approach, endonasal or closed rhinoplasty, or with a minimally invasive non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Our surgeons use the latest morphing software and 3-dimensional imaging to help understand your goals, select the best treatment for you and deliver the changes you desire.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty offers several clinical and structural advantages beyond simple aesthetic changes. Our surgeons focus on creating a balanced profile while maintaining or improving the nasal airway.

  • Improve the nose’s shape and proportions to align with the existing facial dimensions
  • Enhance facial harmony by addressing a prominent bridge, wide nostrils, or a drooping tip
  • Rhinoplasty for breathing improvement can correct a deviated septum or other internal obstructions
  • Achieve natural-looking rhinoplasty results that maintain the structural integrity of the nose
  • Address long-standing concerns regarding nasal symmetry and midline alignment

Ideal Candidates for Rhinoplasty

Determining if you are a good candidate for a nose job involves a thorough evaluation of your health and goals. During a rhinoplasty consultation in Chicago, our surgeons will review your medical history and physical characteristics to determine whether surgery is the right option for you.

  • Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty are individuals whose facial growth is complete
  • A healthy nonsmoker rhinoplasty candidate typically experiences a more efficient healing process
  • Individuals with realistic expectations for surgical improvement rather than absolute perfection
  • Patients looking to resolve chronic breathing difficulties caused by structural issues

One of the best physicians I have ever seen. Took the time to explain in detail the reasons for my symptoms. Explained in detail the procedures we would do. Highly-recommended.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Our surgeons perform both open and closed procedures to address the nasal bridge, the nasal tip, and the internal structures.

  • Closed Rhinoplasty: Incisions are made entirely inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scars. This is ideal for minor bridge adjustments.
  • Open Rhinoplasty: A small incision is made across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils). This provides the surgeon with maximum visibility and precision for complex reshaping.

During surgery, the skin is gently lifted to allow for the reshaping of the underlying bone and cartilage. For patients requiring structural support, our doctors may use grafting techniques using the patient’s own cartilage to reinforce the nasal framework. This is often necessary in cases involving trauma or secondary (revision) surgeries.

Once the modifications are complete, the skin is redraped, and small sutures are placed to facilitate healing. The entire procedure is performed under sedation or general anesthesia for patient comfort.

What to expect during your rhinoplasty consultation

During your rhinoplasty consultation, you will meet with Dr. Revenaugh or Dr. Smith and have a chance to explain your concerns and goals. They will help guide your decision to the treatment that best suits you.

They will ask about your overall health, prior surgeries, medications, allergies, and tobacco history among other things. They will examine the outside of your nose as well as your breathing passages. They will likely take photographs, and these can be used during the consultation or at a later visit to create morphed images that can help understand your goals.

They will discuss the potential risks, benefits, complications, and alternative procedures as well as the type of anesthesia and expected recovery for your procedure.

You will have plenty of time to ask any questions and discuss your decision with your surgeon.
